This project would replace Fire Stations #11 located at 3736 Youree Drive; #14 at 3830 Greenwood Road; and #15 at 3206 West 70th Street. Two of these stations have single bay stations with two Emergency Vehicles responding out of them. The stations were built at a time when apparatuses were smaller and now they can barely house the Engines and Medic Units that are assigned there.
Two of these stations were built in 1962 and one in 1969. The needs of our citizens and firefighters have changed very much over that time. Along with the space issue and responding two trucks out of one single bay; we have greatly increased the diversity of our Firefighters. We now have women living and working in these fire stations. The Fire stations have no separate male and female facilities. The new stations would include these separate facilities.
The new stations would also reduce work related cancer exposure to firefighters such as exhaust removal systems and firefighter gear washer and dryers. The new stations would be energy efficient reducing utility cost and lower maintenance cost.
