Shreveport has pipes that are over 100 years old. These pipes are encrusted, which reduces pipe diameter and water pressure. They are also susceptible to breaks, forcing a lot of invasive point repairs that compromise our roadways. This project replaces deteriorated and undersized water mains across the city, improving quality and pressure.

There are two 24-inch water mains the Amiss Water Treatment Facility. They feed the main water distribution system. Those pipes are leaking. The valves are damaged and cannot be used to effectively isolate the leak. These pipes cannot be patched. This project replaces the valves and whole segments of the pipe.

Shreveport citizens have expressed concerns over water billing for years. Advanced Metering Infrastructure, also known as "Smart Meters," is the most sophisticated meter reading tool. It automatically collects water meter readouts, eliminating human error and labor costs. AMI also helps customers monitor water usage and identify leaks.

The existing Shreveport Police Station was constructed in 1956 and designed as a City Hall. The plumbing and HVAC systems are failing. Offices get as hot as 90 degrees in the summer. Police Officers deserve better. Since remodeling costs more, this project constructs a new central SPD Station. The new station will be smaller with more room for parking.

The SPD Mounted Patrol Unit primarily works the downtown district and special events throughout the city. They require a new facility. The current facility is in disrepair; some parts are not safe and have been boarded up. The MPU has 3 acres for 8 horses, which isn’t sufficient. There is a lot of liability associated with housing inmates. The City Jail is nearly 17 years old. It suffers water leaks and flooding during heavy rains. Vehicle replacement is a critical need for Shreveport Fire. SFD responds to more than 45,000 calls a year, or 125 calls a day. Of the engines answering those calls, 80 percent have an “F” grade; nine are 25 years or older; three trucks are more than 30 years old. This vehicle upgrade project ensures SFD has the equipment needed to provide first-class emergency services.

The Stoner Hill community desperately needs improvements to Valencia Park. This project fills in the abandoned pool at Valencia Park and installs a splash pad for the neighborhood children to enjoy.
